You seem to have misunderstood what I said. Of course we are going to call out the Right's increasingly authoritarian behavior. But we need to do it in accordance with the liberal social contract. Only by doing so will neutral observers come to agree with us. Which means we will gain, rather than continue to lose, support in wider society.

The other theme of this article is that we need to distance ourselves from postmodern critical theory. These theories aim to 'deconstruct' liberal norms, which ultimately make it easier for the authoritarian elements in the religious right to attack us.
