The US federal government is indeed too powerful. They shouldn't have the ability to coerce the states on matters which should be locally decided. This, in fact, is why some are fearing a federal abortion ban, which would never happen in Australia, for example. The Australian model, where the federal government can only legislate on specified matters, is much better.
