Thanks for sharing your perspective. I don't think I have a problem with philosophy in general (especially since I love to talk about the philosophy of liberalism), even though I have a varying level of opposition to certain philosophies (e.g. I have some problems with postmodernism, and I have even more problems with Marcuse).
I don't actually come from a humanities background, but from what I see, the academic humanities and the field of philosophy has skewed in a certain direction, and I think that is unhealthy (because it is unbalanced). Conservatives have complained about the lack of conservative viewpoints, and that's certainly true. But since I'm a liberal, I'm more concerned about the lack of variety of philosophy even within the 'progressive' side itself. For example, there has been a lack of new and exciting philosophy rooted in the liberal tradition (Locke, Mill, and so on) ever since probably Rawls. This is what I want to see change.
