I've noticed that the postmodern left really likes oversimplifications like 'the right wants freedom to hate' or 'all Trump supporters are racist'. It makes polarization and tribalism easier. I think what they actually want is polarization and tribalism, and this anti-intellectual attitude makes it possible.
