It is true that the vast majority of trans people don't identify with the AGP concept, and most trans people (including myself) believe that the Blanchard typology is harmful for us. The problem is, there are now an increasing number of people out there who have come to believe that the Blanchard typology is fundamental truth, because some media source have told them so.

It used to be that the trans community could just refuse to talk about it, and the issue would stay outside the mainstream. But nowadays, trans has gone mainstream, and new groups of people have become interested in trans issues (often with questionable motives). Some of these people have been busily spreading and legitimizing the Blanchard typology out there. Therefore, continuing to ignore it would just let its acceptance grow. This is why we must talk about it, and expose its flaws.
