I think it’s not so simple. In the past 2–3 years, many of the cultural ‘New Left’ have been uptaking economic Marxism too. I have a feeling that those who are ‘Marxist’ in both cultural and economic dimensions are beginning to eclipse the purely cultural New Left. I think we’re seeing much less ‘pure identity politics’ and much more identity politics mixed with Marxist economics and even a desire for Marxist revolution, for example.

After all, this ‘conversion’ would be easy, since New Left cultural theory is largely Marxian anyway, and is often a good ‘preparation’ towards accepting real Marxism as well. Also, ancedotally I’ve heard that Marxists have found cultural New Left activists easier to convert than e.g workers who only want Medicare For All.
