I know that people on the right have used ‘neo-Marxist’ as a meaningless term of attack. But what I mean here is very specific: a worldview, including theory and practice, that is rooted in Marxian ideas like structural oppression linked to capitalism, group-based analysis, obsession over ‘false consciousness’, radical historicism, a view of culture based on Gramscian ideas, etc.

This tradition is completely different to, say, FDR’s New Deal tradition, even though both may be considered ‘left’. In my opinion, the aforementioned neo-Marxist ideas has been poisoning many progressive movements in recent years. A move away from Marxian ideas and back to the New Deal worldview is needed.
