I guess you could be at least partially correct with your analogy there. Extending this analogy, many people would be OK with touching a finger to the mezuzah even if they are atheists, but some might not. Likewise, I understand that some people will refuse to use a trans person's pronouns because of their own strong beliefs. And I'm OK with that. Mutual respect is what is important, I believe. As a trans person, I make my case in asking others to use our pronouns, but if they do not agree, then I would accept their freedom of conscience.
