I don’t excuse the transphobes at all. If you look at my other writing, I have strongly criticized the ‘right wing-TERF alliance’. As for ‘positivity’, I will have a more nuanced take on that later.

As for trans rights, it could be 1970 or 2009 depending on the approach we take. If we go for gradualism, then we’re already at 2009. If we go for the most radical program, then we’re at 1970. And I don’t want us to suffer that long, so I don’t apologize for trying to push the community into gradualism right now. At least secure some basic rights first (I mean, Canada seems to have those already, people in the US, UK and Australia etc. would like to have those too). Legislation might be a front runner to public opinion in Canada, but it may not be true elsewhere (e.g. Australia’s government had to be dragged into legalizing gay marriage, as late as 2017, with 62% of the people already supporting it).
