I am quite concerned about this postmodern conservatism. On the other hand, I don’t believe more ‘leftism’ is the way to counter it. So far, the conventional left (including both mainstream Democrats and the DSA types) have had no inroads into the demographics who buy this postmodern conservatism. However, some ‘unconventional progressives’ (if I may call them that), e.g. Andrew Yang, Tulsi Gabbard, Sam Harris, Joe Rogan, etc, have found support in those demographics. I guess that points the way forward.
If you listen closely, there are genuine concerns, some cultural, some economic, that have to be addressed. The fact is, mainstream Democrats address neither, and the DSA types address only some of the economic concerns, while also serving up unwanted Marxist ideas, plus a lot of ‘woke’ theory, which alienate many people.
p.s. Please don’t put Boris in the same category as Le Pen or even Trump. Boris is pretty liberal! He would probably be in the center-left in America or Australia. I’m sure British liberals don’t want to swap him for Trump or even a more conventional conservative like Pence or Australian PM Scott Morrison.
